How much is it to download movies, tv series?

I would like to collect a favorite tv series of mine. I am trying to compare prices. Downloading them LEGALLY paying for them vs buying them in the store. I've thought about buying them used, but don't know if I want to risk them being scratched. If it matters the series is the Gilmore Girls.
