How do you steady a wobbly ceiling fan?

I have a 2 ceiling fan/ light fixtures that are wobble so severally that I 've avoided using and enjoying them. I have attempted to correct the problem, in the past, by purchasing and trying to attach weights to the made for that specific purpose but to no avail.
