Do I have shingles? How can you tell?

Shingles will usually only be one side of the body, quite painful and blistered. However, in your armpit you could also be dealing with a yeast dermatitis, ringworm or staph infection (impetigo). All these rashes are pretty distinctive and you can readily find photos on the internet. If it's ringworm or yeast, you can try an over-the-counter anti-fungal cream. If it's staph you can try an OTC antibiotic cream. However, ringworm, staph and shingles are contagious. With your tight timeline before seeing family, it's best to have the doctor diagnose, treat and advise you. It'll give you peace of mind, too. :-)
